Frul Inc. Releases New Tesla Cooler
DECEMBER 14, 2020 – Frul Inc. has released their first custom-built Tesla cooler, the Frul R3. The Raleigh, North Carolina-based company designed the R3 to make use of the frunk, a clever storage space under the hood of the Tesla Model 3. The R3 was built from a laser scan of the Model 3 and form-fitted to the right half of the frunk. The cooler is manufactured at Redline Plastics, a Wisconsin-based plastics manufacturer. Joining brands such as Yeti and RTIC, Frul elected to produce the R3 through rotomolding, a manufacturing process widely considered to be best suited for coolers due in part to superior ice retention and durability.
The founders, two Tesla enthusiasts, began designing the cooler during the summer of 2019. Since then, the cooler has been through over 20 iterations, each being 3D printed for testing. The final product features an assisted opening, a Quik-Latch® release button, and two molded-in handles.
The new company hopes to make an impact beyond just introducing custom accessories, however. By incorporating as a Benefit Corporation, joining 1% for the Planet, and committing to a lifetime goal of achieving climate positive operations, the team at Frul hopes to shift the perception of plastic parts manufacturing. Frul has pledged to remove more plastic through volunteer efforts than it introduces in its manufacturing process. The coolers will also ship in only essential, recyclable packaging materials.
