Metal décor artistry is alive and well in El Paso, Texas, thanks to Savage Metal. Today, it is giving back to continue the tradition and promotion of steampunk art-making.

Savage Metal, the go-to store for quality, handcrafted lamps and sculptures in El Paso, Texas, has been known to create steampunk and industrial-themed decorations in the area. Founded in 2014 by Juan Stockmeyer, the store’s brick-and-mortar structure has found its way online. Today, the shop sells online via its website, Amazon and Instagram. As a way of giving back and preserving the artistry of crafting creative steampunk decors, the company shares the tedious process of creating its products. It also launches an online giveaway to its Instagram followers to share the love for the old-style metal designs.

“Each product we have is handmade and/or welded that’s why it takes a few days to assemble. We use recycle automotive transmission gears for the base of some of our products. We also bought 100 square yards of an iconic railroad track in El Paso and used it to make faces of other products like wine stoppers,” the company’s founder said.

The founder has been making metal home furniture and decors since 1984 when his parents bought a beautiful ranch with a stream going through the property in Bent, New Mexico. There, he learned how to work on the windmills and weld. The family also made some furniture, horse stalls, corral pumps, and decks.

“Over the years working at the ranch I ran around with some old-timers and I used several of their vintage tools. I noticed how simple the designs were, more mechanical than electrical. I really enjoyed using them. I try to implement what I’ve learned. I believe people appreciate the old-style stuff today. However, it’s not as available and practical anymore. Some of the new things I’ve made implementing what I’ve learned are boot jacks, a 5-gallon water dispenser that tilts, pulleys, and come-alongs for stretching fences. I’ve made countless knick-knacks, furniture, decks, and patios for friends and family.” He shared.

Today, all his hard work and passion for working on his past creations paid off through Savage Metal. Savage Metal is the brainchild of his wife Maridith Stockmeyer. Visualizing the shop’s potential, he agreed on the idea and quickly began thinking of products to sell in the store. They initially launched a product line available for gardens and patios. Then, he made outdoor tables, furniture, bar carts, sculptures for the yard, and more. One day, he visited a friend who owns the Western Playland in El Paso and this is how he started making animal heads made from 1960s train tracks. Deers, rams, moose, bulls, donkeys made from steel continue to be sold in the shop until today.

With 7,713 Instagram followers as of this writing, Savage Metal puts the same hard work in creating steampunk decors in promoting its crafts online. The company recently launched a giveaway contest on its Instagram page to promote its artistry to a wider audience. This way, the younger generation gets exposed to metal art design and continues to support it.For more details on Savage Metal’s giveaway contest, head over to its Instagram page or log on to http://www.savagemetaldesign.com/.
