Manufacturer Highlights Health Benefits of Hardwood Flooring, Based on Existing Data

Following an analysis of existing research, Three Trees Flooring, Toronto-based hardwood flooring manufacturer is excited to share some of the highlights in terms of potential health benefits, particularly when it comes to allergies and skin conditions.

Firstly, wood flooring is widely recognized as hypoallergenic. In fact, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reported this consistently in their findings. The main reason for this being that carpets are well known to host a variety of microorganisms tracked in from outdoors and they enable the buildup of dust, mold and even pollen, which in return, impacts indoor air quality.

Commenting on this further, a key Three Trees Flooring spokesperson stated, ‘In the context of climate change worsening, allergy seasons are bound to become more extreme. In fact, one study carried out by Nature Communications is suggesting that annual pollen counts could increase by 250 per cent in coming years, which is incredibly worrisome when we realize that allergies such as allergic rhinitis, affect about 1 in 5 Canadians. This means that people will need to make even more conscious lifestyle and practical decisions. It is true that not everyone will automatically think about the connection between the carpet in their house and an allergic episode, however this shift in mindset will need to happen in order to better protect ourselves.’

Secondly, studies analyzing the reduction of dust mite indoor environments have suggested a correlation between improvements in eczema severity and hardwood flooring. Similarly, and connected to allergies, skin conditions such as eczema or atopic dermatitis can be impacted by carpets and floor fabric. For example, even with regular, comprehensive cleaning, house dust mites cannot be removed effectively enough to significantly benefit an eczema flare-up.

Concluding the observations, the spokesperson added, ‘We know that hardwood flooring has the advantage of being extremely easy and efficient to disinfect and clean. That allows people living with allergies or skin conditions to take control not only of indoor air quality but the accumulation of dust particles, bacteria and other dangerous compounds that can worsen their health conditions. There is a wealth of data to demonstrate these benefits and we are committed to bringing this information closer to our customers and enable them to make informed decisions that can improve their and their family’s quality of life long-term’.
