How a Musician’s Car Accidents Inspired Him to Become an Attorney

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA – After being struck in his vehicle twice in two years by distracted drivers in his mid-30s, Carey Collingham was left without the ability to play cello professionally, which had been a cherished part of his life since he was 3 years old.

“I was upset. I was angry. I was sad that somebody else has taken away from me something that was a central part of my life. I wasn’t able to play the cello for extended periods of time without pain and that’s always going to be with me.”

After dealing with the effects of the accidents, Carey decided to use this tragedy as motivation to help others recover from their own injuries, and he redirected his career from the nonprofit sector to pursuing law. Today, Carey is a formidable personal injury attorney at Berry Law whose mission is to help others move past their injuries and take back control of their lives.

While Carey can now only play cello comfortably for 30 minutes at a time, he still plays at weddings and events, and teaches cello in his spare time to share the beauty of music with others. Carey attributes his newfound life purpose as an attorney in part to his own lawyer, who helped him realize that a compassionate and understanding defender can play a major role in someone’s recovery. Because Carey knows he never would have gotten where he is without others’ help, he takes the time to really understand his clients’ lives and desires so that he can give them the best possible chance at the future they want. He’s proud to have a set of skills that he can use to empower others and help get them the happy ending they deserve.

Berry Law is proud to work with such an extraordinary attorney. He is an inspiration to us all.
