Back to School, Back to Work: Dianetics Volunteers Help DC Residents Confront Stress

Washington, DC, US – September 04, 2026 – The Washington, DC event was one of hundreds taking place in more than 50 nations, where volunteers offered Dianetics, provided stress tests and invited the public to local seminars. As families prepare for the return to school and many settle back into work routines after the summer holidays, everyday stress comes back into focus. According to Gallup, 37 percent of adults worldwide reported experiencing stress during much of the previous day.

As part of a coordinated international outreach, volunteers from the Hubbard Dianetics Foundation of Washington, DC provided free stress tests and introduced locals to the book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health as a practical resource for understanding the mind and overcoming stress. Throughout the weekend, volunteers set up stress test booths at community gathering places across Washington, DC, including DuPont Circle and Columbia Heights. Students, parents, business professionals, international businessmen and residents from all walks of life stopped to receive free stress tests and learn more about the practical principles of Dianetics.

First published by L. Ron Hubbard in 1950, Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health has helped millions of people better understand the mind for more than 75 years. With more than 20 million copies in circulation, it remains the all-time bestselling book on the human mind. The word Dianetics is derived from the Greek dia meaning “through,” and nous, “mind or soul” and means “what the mind is doing to the body.” “I like going out to sit down with people and have a chance to give them real spiritual freedom and tools for their problems. We are introducing them to tools that will better their life,” said Jay Lowery, a volunteer with the Hubbard Dianetics Foundation of Washington, DC. “Dianetics helped me personally to recover myself when I was at my lowest and now I feel full again. I like sharing my experience with others.”

One visitor, an international businessman from Portugal always felt stressed out and he didn’t know why. He has always been stressed and his friends would comment it on it all the time. After taking a stress test, he felt he finally found something that would help him handle his stress. He, excitedly, bought his copy of Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health by L. Ron Hubbard and started his first footsteps into Terra Incognita, the unknown land of the human mind. The Washington, DC outreach was one of hundreds taking place around the world as Dianetics volunteers participated in a global campaign across more than 50 nations. From Los Angeles to London and Johannesburg to Tokyo, volunteers provided free stress tests, offered the book and invited people to learn more through local lectures and seminars.
